What is Intraday Margin Buying Power?

Intraday Margin Buying Power (IMBP) is calculated in real time during regular market hours and is based on your account’s current intraday margin excess.

Intraday Margin Buying Power (IMBP):

  • Is your equity minus the margin required for open positions

  • Updates dynamically as you open and close trades

  • Uses an intraday margin multiplier, which may vary by security

  • Includes eligible cash held in the sweep program

Because IMBP is calculated in real time, your available buying power can change throughout the trading day as positions and market values change.

How is IMBP calculated during after-hours and overnight trading hours?

During these sessions:

  • Only standard Margin Buying Power may be used

  • Intraday margin multipliers do not apply

  • Buying power is calculated using overnight margin requirements, which are generally more conservative

IMBP becomes available again when the next day’s trading session begins at 8:00 am ET.

What is Estimated Overnight Deficit (EOD)?

This calculation provides an estimate of the margin call that may be issued on the next business day if the deficit remains at market close. The actual amount is subject to change as position values fluctuate during the trading day, and includes funds reserved by pending orders. To mitigate risk, the deficit should be addressed by liquidating positions, cancelling pending opening-position orders, or depositing additional funds prior to market closure.
